For the last 5 days, police applied excessive force against peaceful demonstrators. They fire tear gas and smoke bombs and they aim to the head of the demonstrators. Thousands injured, at least one person died. Police even attacked temporary hospitals prepared for the injured and stole medical supplies. Government didn’t allow media to mention these demonstrations and even blocked telecommunications. Thousand were taken into custody. They thought that they could stop these democratic demonstrations via excessive police force but today they took a step back. Prime Minister escaped to Africa and government allowed media to broadcast news about these events. They said that they learned a lesson and asked demonstrators to stop.
However, people are not going to stop now. Demonstrations continue in almost every city in Turkey right now. I think things will be fine for a few days. But then, demonstrations will not come to an end, and I think government will take further non-democratic steps.
